The Solis Zero > First Imagined on 1-22-2024

The Zero- The Solis Zero was my first personal design. A product of my imagination after watching the movie Tron Legacy for the second time in years. I wanted to design a vehicle that built around the idea of those iconic hub-less wheels, hence the name “Zero”.
Bones- From the wheels I then brainstormed the base bones. I took inspiration from Atomic Punk era aero designs to give the Zero a sharp yet sleek image and specific silhouette which could stand out and be recognized.
Muscles- The muscle of this design comes in play as the rounded fenders which flow over the body of the car and meet in the center yet come to a sharp flowing edge at the front of the vehicle. The round and smooth rear end is designed to be captivating and another addition to the designs overall fluid body language. The front end is almost opposite from the rear and was imagined to be aggressive and sharp rather than "captivating" like the rear.
Graphics- The graphics of this design are just as important as any other characteristic, the frontal lamps which seamlessly move from the corners of the Zero's face and up the fenders. The daylight openings of this design bring attention first to the front then stretch towards the rear, accompanying the vehicles "fast" appearance. An upper/rear daylight opening is serves as an accent to the main windshield. Shut lines and openings on this design are practical, efficient, and visually appealing. The lines which cover and stretch over the fenders and upper sections of the vehicle signify the Zero's canopy style door. The other openings of this design are aerodynamic but are styled accordingly to emphasize the vehicles overall visual tone.
Functionality- I designed the Zero as an all wheel drive electric dual motor sports coupe. Nimbleness is one of the most important characteristics of how the Zero would function. The hub-less wheels only add to this idea with all around improved handling and performance. There are also many visible aero holes throughout the vehicle, those which are designed to increase air cooling and downforce.

The Solis Rail > First Imagined on 2-14-2024

The Rail- The Solis Rail was my second time designing a vehicle. I designed this vehicle while also working on a school project covering rail guns. From that research I wondered if it would be possible to propel a vehicle with the same mannerism and technology which is used to propel the projectiles of a rail gun, hence the Rail. Because of the inspiration I designed the vehicle to look somewhat industrial in a sense.
Bones- This vehicle's bones or basic shape/silhouette is mainly made up of two characteristics: a smooth streamlined center housing for passengers and the driver. Then straight geometrical lines to add that industrial image, seemingly acting as protection to the flowing center lines. Although these two traits are quite counteractive they still work together, each moving into the next without any visual tension.
Muscles- I wanted geometry to be a very important part of this design, but had to make it match properly with the curved, smooth greenhouse. With the muscles, straight geometrical lines and angles are added to strengthen the overall personality. We add the wheel-well cutouts, fender lines, and a straight line cutting from the front to the rear to signify the transfer between the body and the greenhouse. Along with these, a front splitter lip is added as well as a spoiler, one which is shaped around the end of the greenhouse to increase downforce and aerodynamics.
Graphics- The graphics of this design are more complex than that of the Zero. The lamps are straight and span the full width of the vehicle on the front and rear. Shut lines of the vehicle canopy opening are added to signify the sliding doors. Other geometrical lines are added to boost the overall character some acting as indents and others only filler. The Rims are smooth with very little detail so that your attention is not wasted or drawn to the wheels but to the body instead.
Functionality- The Rail is designed to use electromagnetic rails to propel the vehicle instead of electronic motors. This would reduce weight and increase open space throughout the vehicle for other uses technical or beneficial. Although many sections of the vehicle are quite heavy looking it is only designed to have that appearance while also being aerodynamic at the same time.
